The first European event on the UCI Gran Fondo World Series calendar takes place this weekend in Cyprus for a three days stage race with a time trial on Friday and two Gran Fondo road races over the weekend.

171 riders signed up for the 20km time trial on Friday with a beautiful course along the coastline. First female overall was Lucelia Castillejos Alvarez (F19-34) in an average speed of 38.06 km/h beating her compatriot Anahi Balderas Rosado by 11 seconds while Zaira Rosa Contreras Escamilla (F35-39) got overall third.

The UCI and Golazo are proud to present a new series of worldwide mass participation gravel events ? UCI Gravel World Series – with races on four continents where riders can qualify for the new UCI Gravel World Championships which will take place in the European autumn. The date and venue of these first UCI Gravel World Championships will be communicated shortly.

The Mexican qualifier in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series has been organized in the past years in Campeche and San Luis Potosi and will move for the new edition to Veracruz and the Gulf of Mexico, the perfect location to combine some vacation with the race which will be held this weekend.

In Britain, queen Elizabeth has celebrated her platinum jubilee after 70 years on the throne on the 6th of February and the country will also celebrate this anniversary during a weekend of festivities on the first weekend of June.
