Belgians rule in Schleck Granfondo

The 5th edition of Schleck Granfondo showed again the best countryside roads and race conditions in Luxemburg with a 155 granfondo and a 90km mediofondo. 3000 riders signed up for the sold out event.

In the granfondo, riders started in waves per age group with the M19-34 age group showing the fastest overall times. In the end of the race, two riders sprinted for victory with Wesley Van Dyck winning before his Belgian compatriot Michiel Minnaert. Luxemburg rider Tom Paquet arrived solo in third spot while a large group behind sprinted for fourth place some 2 minutes after the winner.

The shorter 90km race was the qualifying distance for all women and men over 65. For the female overall victory, it was a tight sprint between three ladies who sprinted with the men for the overall win. Belgian Marijke De Smedt (F50-54) outsprinted Dutch Eleonora Entius (F19-34) and German Julia Schallau (F19-34) for an international overall female podium.
