
Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine for Luca Vergallito after a 110km solo break
The 6th edition of the Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine in Varese was again a big success with more than 2500 participants amongst which Fabio Aru, Pascal Richard and Ivan Basso.

In legacy of the very successful 2018 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, still the biggest World Championships in the history of the race, Granfondo Tre Valli Varesine continues on the same courses with a time trial on Saturday and a Granfondo and mediofondo on Sunday.

The very successful World Championships of last week in Trento were concluded last Sunday with 20 new granfondo world champions. On Thursday, 21 riders won the new rainbow jersey in the time trial. A total of 117 riders got a medal over the two disciplines and age groups.

The 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships had its final event with a 144km granfondo and 86km mediofondo with start and finish in the city centre of Trento, but with Monte Bondone (2100m) as major challenge which had to be done one and a half time during the mediofondo and two and a half times during the granfondo, an elevation of respectively 2200 and 3900m.

The traditional team relay on Friday evening as a side event of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships had 19 teams at the start, all formed by 4 riders from which at least one male and one female. Two riders can be of any age, one rider must be over the age of 40 while another needs to be at least 50 years old.

The 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Trento started today officially with the 19.6km flat and fast time trial.
