First UCI Gran Fondo in Costa Rica means racing towards the Pacific Ocean

The first race in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series in Costa Rica had been planned some years ago, but covid prevented an earlier launch. The real start is this weekend with a 127km race from the capital city San José to Puntarenas at the Pacific Ocean.

The course has a lot of downhill as the start is located at an altitude of 1100m to finish at sea level, but there is also some climbing as a 10km climb after 30k is a major challenge for all riders.

702 riders have signed up coming from 7 countries.
