UCI Granfondo Veracruz with international peloton

171 riders signed up for the 20km time trial on Friday with a beautiful course along the coastline. First female overall was Lucelia Castillejos Alvarez (F19-34) in an average speed of 38.06 km/h beating her compatriot Anahi Balderas Rosado by 11 seconds while Zaira Rosa Contreras Escamilla (F35-39) got overall third.

Fastest male of the day was Omar Gomez (M45-49) beating former World Champion Robert Nunez (M55-59) from Costa Rica by 9 seconds and Patricio Ruiz as third one on the podium. The winner rode with an average speed of 45.47 km/h.

The Granfondo on Sunday started in the same location with a tough climb towards the finish line in Xalapa for a race over 145km for 1700m of elevation.

Marcela Elizabeth Prieto Castaneda won the race in the female categories in a time just above 4h, 14 minutes before Valeria Leon Ordaz and Paola Macias Estrada who sprinted for overall second place. All three ladies came from the youngest F19-34 age group.

The overall winner in the men’s race was Miguel Angel Diaz Herrera (M19-34) in a time of 3h37 in a sprint before Manuel Serrano Plowells (M35-39) while Jaime Vergara Caro (M35-39) took the third spot on the overall podium at 51 seconds.

The older age categories finishing before the steep parts of the climb started, battled in a 98km event with a total elevation of 520m for their qualification. Laura Puga and Jesus Aguirre won in the age categories over 55.

Riders from 9 different nationalities signed up for the event.
