Tom Leaper and Kathryn Woolston to win Wiggle Amy’s Granfondo

The 7th edition of the biggest Australian Granfondo who takes place every year along the Great Ocean Road with start and finish in Lorne had again a big peloton of riders at the start. Almost 5000 riders showed up for one of the 4 distances on offer from which the longest 120k course is the official qualifier.

Overall fastest time was for former pro-rider Tom Leaper (M40-44) who rode the Granfondo with a difficult first part in 3h04 to finish almost a minute ahead of Darren Lever and Andrew Gray who was the fastest in the Men 35-39 age group. The average speed of the winner was 39 km/h.

Kathryn Woolston (F45-49) was the fastest female on the course to win in a time of 3h20, more than 3 minutes ahead of Jenny Pettenon (F40-44) and Geraldine Blomfield-Brown (F45-49). The average speed of the female winner was 35.8 km/h.

Also positive to mention is the low number of riders involved in accidents. Given the number of people who ride it, the tricky nature of some of the roads and of course fatigue, the low number of incidents requiring medical attention is something the event is very proud of.
