The Blue Mountains Granfondo keeps up the good work

With splendid weather all over the weekend, the Blue Mountains Granfondo had a great fourth edition as Canadian qualifier for the 2018 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, the first one after the new name change.

The Granfondo riders had a 155km as qualifier distance for all men up to the age of 50 while all women and men over 50 had a shorter 112km race with one loop less. Both races started with a 30 minutes interval.

Fastest overall on the long course was continental team rider Travis Samuel who for that reason was not eligible to qualify for worlds. Gaelen Merritt (M19-34) was the first qualified rider over that distance.

Fastest female on the short course was Susan Palmer-Komar who beated a lot of her younger opponents to win her F50-54 age group. Fastest male on the short course was Andre Lamarche winning his M55-59 age group.

Chris Schindler was the fastest overall in the 24.7km time trial on Thursday with quite some elevation. His average speed was 42.6km/h while Paolina Allen beated a lot of her younger opponents to win the female time trial in an average speed of 36.4 km/h.
