The 40th edition of Maraton Franja was a big success after months of Covid lockdown and restrictions and noticed an international field at the start for the well-known 156 and 100km races.

One of the oldest Granfondos with a very long traditional since 1982 and part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series since the first year in 2011, Maraton Franja BTC City is a classic amongst all mass participation events in Europe.

The events who take place this year after the 2021 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships have been approved by the UCI management committee. Those events are the first qualifiers of the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Series leading up to the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships who take place in Trento, Italy.

The Granfondo in Moscow who had been planned on 22-23 May and had to be moved last minute as Covid infections had a short peak around that time in the capital city of Russia now moves to 10-11 July.

The recent increase in Covid-19 infections in the city of Moscow resulted in a postponement of the Garden ring race which was scheduled for this weekend. The race will now be rescheduled to July.

Despite Covid-19, the 2021 Cheaha Challenge Granfondo broke another participants’ record with 1231 riders in the Granfondo and 151 in the time trial, a quarter more than in the last edition in 2019. Riders from 35 different US States signed up for the event.
