Further postponements and cancellations

With the Covid-19 virus taking over control of daily life in all continents and restrictions are being implemented by governments, also the UCI Gran Fondo World Series and its calendar has a lot of changes and events' organizers are following the evolution of the virus on a daily base together with their cycling federation and local authorities to try and postpone / reschedule the event to a later moment. Some have also decided to skip 2020 and focus directly on 2021.

This is the actual status of the UCI Gran Fondo calendar as for what is known at this moment :

– Cyprus Granfondo, Tour de Bintan and Tour de Brisbane had already been cancelled on their scheduled date end of March and early April and are looking at options to move their event to a later moment this year. Cyprus Granfondo will most likely move directly to spring 2021.

– In the past few days, also the organizers of La Bourgogne Cyclo, UCI Granfondo Troy, Schleck Granfondo, Granfondo Rio de Janeiro, Greek Granfondo, Coast to Coast Costa Rica, Tour of Cambridgeshire and Granfondo Suisse have announced us a cancellation / postponement. They are reconsidering internally their options for 2020. UCI Granfondo Troy, Swiss Granfondo and Coast to Coast Costa Rica will cancel for 2020 and focus directly on 2021. The others are in touch with their local authorities and national cycling federation to try and move the event to later this year.

– Most events from June onwards are actually still planned on their original date, but as nobody knows what the near future will bring, they are also monitoring the situation on a daily base and work on a plan B to postpone their event to the summertime or even in autumn in case it’s necessary.

– Around Samcheok (Korea) had been postponed and rescheduled to July 4-5 2020.

The UCI is helping to reschedule the events who had to be cancelled but also reconsiders the qualification regulations for the ongoing events.
