Cyprus Granfondo with international field

A three days stage race with a time trial on Friday and two road races covering the weekend brought 360 riders from 20 different nationalities at the start of Cyprus Granfondo. Riders enjoyed the sunny weather with temperatures between 20 and 25 degrees.

The 28km time trial on Friday with an out-and-back loop had Andreas Miltiades from Cyprus as the overall male winner before David Williams from Dubai and Matvei Zubov from Russia. Fastest female overall on the course was Maltese Michelle Vella Wood who was faster than her compatriot Marie Claire Aquilina and German Monika Sattler. The average speed of the winners was 45.2 and 37.6 km/h respectively.

The 90km road race on Saturday had a 20k neutralized start before entering the mountains for a first difficult part towards an altitude of 900m starting from sea-level. Fastest male overall was Russian Matvei Zubov who in the end got away from two Cypriote riders Andreas Miltiades and Alexandros Agrotis to win 6 seconds ahead. Russian Galina Strelsova beated her compatriot Guzel Akhmadullina with almost three minutes ahead while Maltese Marie Claire Aquilina finished in third.

The final stage on Sunday was shorter, but had almost the same elevation with finish up in the mountains instead of a downhill like the day before. Aleksandr Bako finished solo 20 seconds ahead of Ivan Seledkov with the winner of the second stage Matvei Zubov in third. A complete Russian podium. First female was again Strelsova before Akhmadullina with this time Maltese Michelle Vella Wood in third.
