Amy’s Granfondo starts the 2019 qualifying season

The biggest Australian Granfondo takes place this weekend on a superb course along the Great Ocean Road in Lorne, nearby Melbourne. It's the first of 21 qualifying events all leading up to the World Championships next year in Poznan.

Last year, more than 5000 riders did the beautiful course and took the opportunity to ride a totally traffic free Great Ocean Road and the mountains of the Otway Range.

The race is organized since 2011 in memory of cyclist Amy Gillett who passed away too early after a cycling accident in Germany when being part of the national team and wants to put the emphasis on more safety on the road for cyclists to reduce the incidence of death and injury of bike riders.

The 120km course starts and finishes in Lorne and is since 2016 done in the opposite way, starting with a climb to finish along the Great Ocean Road. The event is one of two events who have been part of the series since 2011.

During the weekend, there are also side events with a hill climb, a cyclocross and some family rides for all levels.
