10% growth for Rhodes Gran Fondo Tour

The Greek qualifier on Rhodes Island was again a success with 10% more riders at the start on the holiday island.

The first stage was the hardest with a long climb towards 624m for a total distance of 94km. A Group of 15 riders made the break with lots of different nationalities represented. Greek riders battled next to riders from Belgium, Poland, France, Cyprus, Malta, Italy, Russia, Denmark and Estonia in the lead group. The 4 Polish riders were best represented and could also benefit from this advantage to take first and second spot with Michael Nabialek winning 8 seconds ahead before Marcin Bartolewski. Kyriakos Papastamatakis took third spot for the home country. Greek Sabrina Twiss was the first female in the peloton.

The second stage was the longest stage, but with less elevation than the day before. Russian Dmitry Murashko beated a big bunch in the sprint winning before Polish Grzegorz Golonko and Greek Kyriakos Papastamatakis who finished again third. The female victory in this stage went to Christiana Anthanasopoulou who beated Maltese Danica Bonello in the sprint.

The final time trial then had to decide for the overall final ranking. Dmitry Murashko renew his win of the second day, but Polish Grzegorz Golonko took the overall ranking with 2 seconds ahead of Murashko. Greek rider Kyriakos Papastamatakis took again third spot for the third consecutive day and is also third in the overall ranking.

The female overall victory was for Sabrina Twiss who also took the win in the final time trial.
