More than 2000 riders hit the Dubai roads

The Dubai First Granfondo, part of the Spinneys 92 cycling festival was held for the eight time this past Friday in the iconic UAE city. It's the biggest cycling event in the middle east.

The event always attracts a lot of riders from different nationalities and abilities. Some are there to race, but the majority is just having fun and wants to take the challenge to ride the traffic free roads with rolling road closures.

The overall first place in the 92km event was for Canadian rider David Williams who won a big peloton sprint after a fast race before Dutch Jinne Osinga and Russian Igor Mironov in an average speed of 44.5km/h.

The first lady over the same distance was Belgian Elisabeth Floren who finished 20 seconds ahead of Dutch Yvonne van Hattum while South African Jacqui Liebenberg took third spot three minutes later.

The average speed of the first woman was almost 38km/h.
