Günther Flatscher and Anja Buysse to rule Look Marmotte Hochkonig

450 riders from 20 different countries showed up to take part in the challenging Marmotte Hochkonig event to try and qualify for the Albi World Championships.

Soon after the start, a group of 10-12 riders made the break on the first climb. Austrian Fabian Steindl then decided to go for a long solo but it was his teammate Günther Flatscher who finally escaped from the group with also Laurent Jalabert to finish 7 minutes ahead of Belgian Jeroen Lemaire and German Krysztof Skupke on top of Arturhaus, the hardest and final climb of the day.

In the female categories, former Belgian World Champion Anja Buysse who won her rainbow jersey in 2011 showed her good climbing skills to beat all her younger opponents. Austrian Elisabeth Wolfel finished in second while German Julia Hanebuth took the third podium spot.
