The Gran Fondo Denmark 2018 route begins in the center of Grinsted and runs southeast to Hegnsvig and on to Vorbasse. The first 40km are mainly run on smaller roads and some well-known climbs such as Blue Horse and Tørskind Hill.
The main difficulty is the section between kilometer 90 to 105 when the riders cross Østengård – the notorious climb from the Tour of Denmark – and shortly after the cobblestone section at Hopballe. The last part is again on main roads before the finish in the heart of Grindsted – a total of 177 km and 1179 meters of elevation. The mediofondo uses the same route but makes a shortcut halfway to finish after 119km.
On Saturday, a 28km time trial on mainly flat and windy roads will test the power of the time trial specialists.
