On Friday 1 and Saturday 2, the city of Eilat at the Red Sea will host a new UCI Gran Fondo World Series qualifier in Israel.
The weekend has a 22.3 km time trial on Friday with an out-and-back loop just north of the city to a turning point halfway. It’s a mainly flat race with minor elevation just before the turning point which is 40m higher than the start and finish area. Total elevation is 108m.
On Saturday a 140km Granfondo has been organised for many years and will for the first time count as qualifier event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. After a flat start over the first 52km, the major climb of the day Mt Ayit is 4.2km long at an average of 6.7% with peaks up to 14%. The next 60km are over rolling hills before reaching the descent back to Eilat in the last 15km.
All age groups will do the same distance to qualify.
