The UCI CRC 506 Gran Fondo Costa Rica 2026 brought a day of road racing to the Central Pacific coast on Sunday, with the Gran Fondo distance running the out-and-back route between Jacó and Quepos.
Gran Fondo (141.4 km): Warner Gamboa took the overall win in 3:26:29, a solo victory in an average speed of 41.1 km/h. Felipe Nystrom won the peloton sprint behind for second place at 1m52 to become the winner of the 40-44 category, beating Diyer Rincón and 47 other riders in Jaco on the line after 141km. In the women’s race, Laura Solano led home in the same peloton sprint (40.7 km/h average), winning the 35-39 category ahead of Karina Ulate, while Yailin Gómez took the 19-34 women’s title, all in the same big group.
The shorter Medio Fondo (69.8 km) saw newly crowned UCI time trial world champion Robert Nunes win in a sprint of 12 riders to take home the men 60-64 win. In that same group as only female and finishing 11th between the men, Vanessa Jop, winner of the female mediofondo and her women 50-54 category.
