The unique Croatian qualifier event in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series taking place in Umag on the Istrian peninsula this weekend has attracted 1056 from 29 different countries at the start.
Italy is the best represented country with 298 riders followed by Slovenia (277) and the home country Croatia (199) but the organizers also welcome riders from Brazil, Costa Rica, Afghanistan and Chile for a very international peloton.
The time trial on Friday is a back-and-forth loop over 21.8km.
On Saturday the 105km granfondo has two times the Oprtalj climb, 6km at 7.8% average. The mediofondo does the same course but skips the second loop for a total distance of 80km.
All races start and finish at the Stella Maris holiday resort complex in Umag, ideal to combine the race with some vacation.
