Frank invited a few of his former friends in the peloton with 5 times tour de France winner Miguel Indurain and his ex-teammate Jens Voigt. The 155km qualifying distance started in three race waves and a leisure wave.
In the M19-34 start wave, the victory was for Belgian Jeroen Vercammen while another Belgian Frederic Glorieux was the fastest in the second wave winning his M35-39 age group, bridging the gap with the first wave. The third startwave for riders over 45 was won by German Michael Schaeffer who also took the victory in his M50-54 age group.
The shorter 85km distance counted as qualifying distance for all females and males over 60. Fastest female over that distance was French Karine Temporelli winning her F45-49 age group. Fastest male in the categories who battled for qualification was Belgian Jean-Michel Thimister winning his M60-64 age group.
