2018 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships head towards new participants’ record

With a bit more than a week before registration closes, the Varese Gran Fondo World Championships have already more registered riders in the Granfondo road races on Sunday than Albi last year.

2313 riders from 59 different nationalities have signed up for the road races which is actually already 40 more than last year.

The time trial now has 566 riders coming from 43 different countries which is still a 100 less than last year, but the total of 2879 riders will normally pass the 2942 participants of last year in Albi in the upcoming week.

Remarkable is that the growth in the Granfondo is in the males age categories while the actual lower number in the time trial is due to less male participation.

Biggest age groups are Women 45-49 with 64 participants (last year 75) and Men 50-54 with 375 participants (last year 346).

The 59 nationalities at the start are also beating the 56 of last year in Albi. Riders can still sign up until the 24th of August.
