World Champion Bruce Bird shows the roads during the Blue Mountains Granfondo

The only Canadian qualifier event takes places this weekend with a time trial on Thursday and a Granfondo over two distances on Saturday.

Organizer is the double UCI Gran Fondo World Champion Bruce Bird who showed great condition during the last World Championships in Albi by winning his 45-49 age group after an early attack. His second win after an earlier victory in Ljubljana 2014.

The 24.7km time trial goes up in the first part for a downhill finish near the start area in Thornbury.

The Granfondo is split in loops with the older males and females doing the 112km while the younger age groups do an additional loop to finish after 155km. Main difficulty of the day is the Scenic Caves Climb, a steep uphill from the ski resort with the top 26km from the finish.
