UCI Granfondo Veracruz for some challenging roads in Mexico

The Mexican qualifier in the UCI Gran Fondo World Series has been organized in the past years in Campeche and San Luis Potosi and will move for the new edition to Veracruz and the Gulf of Mexico, the perfect location to combine some vacation with the race which will be held this weekend.

The time trial on Saturday is a 20km back and forth loop along the coastline with some splendid views over the sea. It’s a flat race so fast times can be expected.

The granfondo race on Sunday has the same start in Veracruz, but will finish uphill after 145km in the city of Xalapa. The first 80km remain flat with parts on the highway, but the last section promises to be challenging with a finish at an altitude of 1335m which is mainly done in the last 30km. Total elevation for the granfondo distance is 1700m

There is also a shorter mediofondo distance of 98km as qualifier for the age groups above 55 for both men and women which stops in the beginning of the climb for a total elevation of 520m

More than 500 riders have signed up from different countries for both disciplines.
