The Austrian qualifier event has grown a lot this year as 1750 riders already signed up for the time trial and the granfondo coming from 38 different countries. With the expected day registrations, the organizers are hoping to get to 2000 riders by the weekend.
The concept of the weekend remains the same as before with a punchy time trial on Saturday over 25km with a steep start and another short climb halfway. Total elevation is 210m.
On Sunday more than 1500 riders will do the flat 125km granfondo through Austrian’s Burgenland with also a loop through Hungary on the other side of the picturesque Neusiedlersee. The race is often ridden with crosswinds along the lake and apart from the steep start and a minor hill 10km before the finish, the race is flat and fast with only 600m of elevation.
Juraj Sagan, brother of Peter and retired as a pro rider last year will attend as team director with his Slovakian team.
