Italy wins most medals during the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships

The very successful World Championships of last week in Trento were concluded last Sunday with 20 new granfondo world champions. On Thursday, 21 riders won the new rainbow jersey in the time trial. A total of 117 riders got a medal over the two disciplines and age groups.

Italy has scored a total of 22 medals, 8 gold (2 ITT, 6 ROA), 7 silver and 7 bronze medals. In the ranking they precede Germany who won most medals in the time trial and finally had a total of 13 (5 gold, 5 silver and 3 bronze). France got the overall third spot in this prestigious ranking scoring also 13 medals (4 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze), followed by Belgium (11) Slovenia (9) and the Netherlands (8).

A total of 22 different nations got at least one medal.

In the history of the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, dating back from 2011, it’s the third time that Italy wins the medals standings after earlier first spots in 2014 and 2018. Also the USA was three times the best (2011, 2012, 2013). Most gold medals in the history of these UCI Gran Fondo World Championships still remain with Australia who won 13 gold on home ground in 2016.
