Cheaha Challenge Granfondo to reach 1000 participants this weekend

Cheaha Challenge Granfondos is one of the oldest Granfondos in the states which once started as a fun ride between friends to the highest mountain in the state of Alabama in 1992.

The 2022 edition of the event looks promising with a time trial on Saturday morning on a 12 miles straight shot course with only a few corners by the end. The time trial was added to the program three years ago.

The century ride on Sunday (100 miles) is the qualifying distance for those seeking qualification to represent their country during the 2022 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships. The start and finish are located on the Jacksonville State University campus with a flat start and finish section, but the turning point halfway is challenging as riders have to go twice over Mount Cheaha (2407 ft), the highest mountain in Alabama before getting back to the finish.
