Armstrong and Rathwell to take RBC GranFondo Whistler

The first qualifier event of the new season and test event for the 2020 World Championships have been taking place this past weekend in Vancouver/Whistler for a 76 miles / 122km Granfondo starting downtown in the city and arriving after a challenging race on undulating roads in the skiresort up north on the sea-to-sky highway.

The almost 4000 riders battled in different start waves their way up towards the finish and it was eventually Canadian Brendan Armstrong (M19-34) who won the overall event in a time of 3:13:37 ahead of American Jaco Cronje (M35-39) and Canadian Marty Heck (M50-54) who beated a lot of his younger opponents. The average speed of the winner was 37.8km/h.

First female in the race was Megan Rathwell (CAN) before Laura Matsen Ko (USA) and Claire Cameron (CAN), all three from the F35-39 age group in an average speed of 35,7km/h.
