De Decker and Valkeneers deliver Belgian wins at Granfondo Belgium

The second edition of Granfondo Belgium, staged around the lakes of Lac de l’Eau d’Heure in Wallonia, featured a revised course: a start loop followed by three or four local circuits before the final run to the finish on the dam.

In the men’s race, Bjorn De Decker set the fastest time of the day. The former 2017 UCI Gran Fondo World Champion started in a later M35–39 wave and almost bridged across to the leading M19–34 group. In the combined overall standings across all categories, Roeland Strypens took second and Alexandre Toubeau finished third, both from the first start wave. De Decker averaged 39.5 km/h on the demanding course.

In the women’s race, which started from a separate grid two minutes behind the men’s 55–59 field, the victory was decided in a three-rider sprint on top of the dam. Antje Valkeneers from the F19-34 category led an all-Belgian podium, beating Julia Gregoire and Elke Timperman, who won the F35–39 category.
