The Cyprus Granfondo as part of the UCI Gran Fondo World Series stands as one of the premier stage races tailored for amateur cyclists.
Commencing with a time trial on Friday and followed by two difficult road races over the weekend, this enduring format has been a cornerstone of the event’s success, offering participants not only thrilling competition but also the chance to combine with a memorable cycling holiday amidst the Mediterranean’s allure. This year, a diverse contingent of 400 riders representing 40 nationalities has eagerly enrolled to partake in the race.
The time trial unfolds on Friday along a classic route—a circular course starting from Nikoklia town, traversing a 28km path to a midway turnaround point. The initial leg presents a gradual ascent, while the latter part offers a predominantly downhill descent, culminating at the finish line.
Saturday’s stage, often hailed as the queen stage, commences from the historic confines of Paphos’s ancient castle, featuring a 15km neutralized preamble as first part of the hard 102km route, ascending to 860m elevation after 66km of racing.
Concluding the event, the final stage, though shorter at 59km, maintains its reputation for challenge and excitement. The latter half of the course introduces a formidable 12km climb, followed by a final ascent towards the concluding stretch. Additionally, both Saturday and Sunday accommodate a mediofondo distance category, catering specifically to male cyclists over 60 and female cyclists over 50.
