The postponed edition of the Costa Rican qualifier of this weekend along the Pacific coast between Jaco and Quepos was again a big success with lots of riders keen on qualifying for the upcoming UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Australia.
Sebastián Calderón of 7C Economy Hyundai won the CRC 506 Gran Fondo. He finished the 141km event in 3:08:28 with almost a minute to Marcos Sánchez who beated Pablo Mudarra in the sprint for second
American cyclist Stephanie Clark won the women’s race in a time of 3:22:30. Melisa Ávila took second place at 3:26:38, and Natalia Jiménez came in third at 3:26:40.
The average speed of the winners on the flat roads along the coastline was respectively 45 and 42km/h.
In the shorter 72km as qualifier for men over 60 and women over 50, victories were for Gustavo Mesen and Anabell Calderon in an average speed of 42 and 35 km/h.
