The UCI Gran Fondo World Series heads to Central Europe this weekend with the Sudety Tour in Broumov (Czechia), a unique cross-border event combining a time trial in Poland with a demanding granfondo in Czechia on Sunday.
Riders from 20 different countries will line up across the two days of racing.
Saturday: uphill time trial in Poland
The weekend kicks off on Saturday with an individual time trial in the Polish town of Radków, just across the border from Broumov. A total of 116 riders will take part in the race against the clock.
The 10.6 km course starts with a short flat section before turning into a steady climb of around 7 kilometres at an average gradient of 5.5%. Riders will gain over 400 metres of elevation, climbing from 375 metres above sea level to a finish at more than 770 metres
Sunday: granfondo across Czech–Polish border
On Sunday, the focus shifts to the road races, where 364 participants will take on either the granfondo or mediofondo distances.
Starting and finishing in Broumov, the course quickly heads north and crosses into Poland after just 10 kilometres. The route then returns to Czechia, where one of the most iconic sections of the race awaits: the short but steep cobbled climb of Vysoká Srbská, averaging 10% with ramps up to 15%.
Both distances are characterised by constantly rolling terrain, with very little flat road allowing riders to recover. The granfondo covers 147 km with over 1,900 metres of elevation, while the mediofondo spans 85 km with around 1,100 metres of climbing,
