LOUTRAKI

Loutraki is a well-established tourist destination in Greece, celebrated for its unique mix of natural beauty, ancient history, and modern leisure facilities. Situated on the Gulf of Corinth and backed by the Geraneia Mountains, it offers a diverse range of activities and attractions for various types of travelers.

  • Thermal Springs and Wellness: The city’s fame dates back to antiquity, as it was known for its natural mineral and therapeutic springs. The Loutraki Municipal Thermal Spa provides a modern, luxurious setting for visitors to experience these healing waters through various treatments, including hydromassage, sauna, and hammam.

  • Beaches and Coastal Life: Loutraki’s long pebble beach is a major draw, boasting a “Blue Flag” status for its cleanliness and quality. The scenic promenade is perfect for leisurely strolls, and the area offers a variety of cafes, restaurants, and water sports like windsurfing and jet skiing.

  • History and Archaeology: Loutraki is an excellent base for exploring some of Greece’s most significant archaeological sites. The nearby Corinth Canal is a marvel of modern engineering, while ancient sites such as the Heraion of Perachora, the ancient city of Corinth, and the Acrocorinth fortress are within easy reach. The area also features monasteries, like the Monastery of Osios Patapios, which offers breathtaking panoramic views.

  • Casino and Entertainment: For those seeking a bit of glamour and nightlife, Loutraki is home to one of Europe’s largest and most popular casinos, the Club Hotel Casino Loutraki. The city also has a lively nightlife scene with various clubs and bars.

  • Nature and Adventure: The Geraneia Mountains provide a stunning backdrop and a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. Hiking and trekking trails offer incredible views of the Gulf of Corinth. The nearby Lake Vouliagmeni, a tranquil saltwater lagoon, is another natural gem perfect for swimming and relaxing.

  • Corinth Canal: a man-made waterway built in 1882-1993 connects the Gulf of Corinth in the Ionian Sea with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. Cutting through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth, it effectively separates the Peloponnese peninsula from the Greek mainland, making the former an island.  The channel is 6.3km long, 24m wide and only 8m deep.
