The Swiss qualifier event for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships is part of a major weekend with a time trial on Friday, a UCI Gravel event on Saturday and a Granfondo and Mediofondo on Sunday.
1000 riders from 28 different countries have signed up for the time trial and road races with another 500 having registered for the gravel race.
The 7,4km time trial is uphill with start in Villars sur Ollon and finish on top of the Col de la Croix. The 470m of climbing is at 6.2% average.
The Granfondo on Sunday is challenging with its 150km and 3810m of climbing divided over 6 climbs. The start is up the Col de la Croix from Villars, followed by Col du Pillon, Col du Mittelberg, a flatter middle section to then tackle Col des Mosses, La Forclaz and finish back on Col de la Croix from the other side.
The 100km mediofondo with 2500m of elevation skips the northern part and Col du Mittelberg, but all other major climbs are part of the course to also finish on top of Col de la Croix.
This Granfondo is a true paradise for climbers who love the high mountains.
