The eleventh edition of the Croatian UCI granfondo qualifier taking place in Umag, Istria this weekend was a big success and the biggest edition ever held.
In the 21.8km time trial on Friday, Austrian Daniel Hochstrasser rode the fastest time in an average speed of 46.7km/h, 48 seconds faster than his compatriot Daniel Szalay with Slovenian Jan Jazbec in third at 53 seconds.
Slovenian Laura Simenc was the fastest woman in the time trial in an average speed of 39.5 km/h. Gergana Stoyanova from Bulgaria needed 22 seconds more to complete the same course while Simenc’s compatriot Petra Pasar finished third at 1m47
On Saturday, the 105km granfondo was won by Italian Federico Pozzetto who was the fastest of a 5-men break with two Italians and three Slovenians who sprinted for victory. Slovenian Matic Groselj and Italian Alex Rainmondi were respectively second and third.
Slovenian Laura Simenc renewed her win from the time trial keeping up with a group of strong men for an average speed of 36.6km/h. Her compatriot Petra Pasar now finished in second with Lina Cepak as third for a complete overall Slovenian podium.
The shorter 80km mediofondo counting as qualifier distance for the men over 60 and women over 50 was won by Italian former pro rider Stefano Colagé and his compatriot Patrizia Romanello in these respective categories.
