Aidar Zakarin and Ekaterina Kovalchuk winners of Cyprus Granfondo

The tenth edition of Cyprus Granfondo, a three days stage race on the beautiful mediterranean island has seen great battles in beautiful landscapes with a male overall winner winning all stages while the female win was established in the road races.

In the traditional 28km time trial on the opening day, Aidar Zakarin (RUS) proved that he had come to renew his wins from the previous 2 years, riding the distance in an average speed of 48.6km/h to win 33 seconds ahead of his compatriot Evgenii Tikhonin with Kirill Kolenchits (CYP) as third at 1m15.

The female win in the time trial was for Elizaveta Ivanova (RUS) who rode 35 seconds faster than Martyna Wisniewska (POL) with Ekaterina Kovalchuk (CYP) as overall third at 1m04. Inanova’s average speed over the full distance was 38.3 km/h.

In the queen stage on Saturday, Zakarin showed his great condition again, winning with a great solo 1m21 ahead of his compatriots Sergei Trubetskoi and 1m13 ahead of Dmitrii Puzanov.

The female result in the queen stage was the opposite of the time trial result with Kovalchuk winning 6 minutes ahead of Ivanova while Wisniewska finished as third this time at 10m58.

No big changes in the final shorter Sunday stage with Zakarin confirming his dominance, this time with 51 seconds to Nikita Razumov with Evgenii Tikhonin as third at 1m15.

Kovalchuk also confirmed her female power on Sunday, winning 4 minutes ahead of Wisniewska with Maltese Diana Muscat as third in the female categories.

In the mediofondo as qualifier distance for the men over 60 and women over 50, the respective GC wins were for Israelean Ran Tsahor and Italian Elena Pancari.
