With the 20 new granfondo titles crowned last Friday and another 22 in the time trial on Monday, the 2023 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in Scotland have been very successful for the 122 riders who won gold, silver or bronze. A new record of 26 different nations have scored at least one medal, amongst which new countries like Liechtenstein, Venezuela, Kazachstan and Luxemburg.
Great Britain wins this year the prestigious ranking with 29 medals total from which 11 gold, 5 silver and 13 bronze.
The USA, for many years unbeatable in this ranking now got second with 13 medals (5 gold, 6 silver, 2 bronze) followed by France with 10 medals (5 gold, 4 silver and 1 bronze), Belgium (10), Germany (6) and Norway (6).
Britain won most of their medals in the time trial with 8 gold but was also the best in the road races where they scored 3 gold, as much as the USA and Belgium, but they got less silver and bronze.
Since the masters’ road world championships have been reformed into the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships in 2011, both USA and Italy won this ranking three times, France twice and Germany, Australia, Slovenia, and Great Britain once.
