The 66 Degrés sud event in Perpignan was first held in 2021 and will have an uphill time trial on Thursday and a granfondo and mediofondo on a hilly course on Saturday in the Perpignan region.

A tourist and economic attractiveness strategy that begins with this event, “the cyclotourist” which announces a larger event in 2022, “the cyclosportive”. Cycling will indeed be a strong theme this summer with the Tour de France which will stop on July 11 in Céret.

Road race
The course of the 66 Degrés Sud event starts and finishes in Rivesaltes north of Perpignan
Granfondo
After the start in Rivesaltes, riders make a loop towards the north before heading west in the countryside. The first 60km has some minor hills of maximum 4km long and maximum 5% gradient.
The first real challenge is the Col de Roque Jalere starting from the town of Sournia for an 8km challenge at 6.1% average with parts up to 10%. After the downhill, the course heads back east towards Perpignan with another challenging climb from the Lake of Vinca towards the town of Arboussols (4km at 8.3% average)
After crossing the Têt river at km127, a 10.2km climb at 5.6% average is the last challenge of the day before the last 50km which is mainly flat towards the finish. Total elevation is 1788m.
The Granfondo distance is the qualifier distance for all men 19-59.
Mediofondo
The shorter 139km course uses big parts of the first half of the granfondo course, but skips the Col de Roque Jalere climb to go back to the finish. Hardest climb on the course is during the shortcut in the town of Trévillach where the course reaches an altitude of 620m, a 9.6km climb at 3.4% average.
Total elevation over the 139km is 1660m.
The mediofondo is the qualifier distance for all female categories and men 60+.
Time Trial
The time trial starts from the town of Cases de Pène, northwest of Perpignan. It’s a challenging 19km time trial with a first 3km climb at 4.7% average. After the downhill and passing through the village of Tautavel, the last 5.5km towards the finish are again going up at 4.1% average through the town of Vingrau to finish at an altitude of 285m above the sea.
