Lahti is the gate to the famous Finnish lakes and a real sports city with a lot of international winter sport competitions, but also a yearly Moto GP. The Granfondo shows the best of the Lakeland area for a flat and fast event and beautiful scenery.

General

Lahti is a real sports city with a lot of sports events (both winter and summer competitions) but also a wide range of sports accommodations with the Messilä Ski Centre, the Olympic Training Centre Vierumäki and the Olympic and Paralympic Training Centre Pajulahti.

The city hosts 180 kilometers of ski tracks of which 70 kilometers are well-lit and a famous ski jump tower in Sports Centre.

Seen from the South, Lahti is the first real lakeside city and Lake Vesijärvi is the most southern body of water in Lakeland Finland. The heart of Lakeland opens up from Vesijärvi through the Vääksy canal: Lake Päijänne, which provides drinking water for one million Finns.

Road race

The races on Saturday start and finish in Lahti and go north in between the beautiful lakes who are so recognizable for the area. The race is flat with some minor elevation.

There are two distances : a mediofondo distance of 97km and a granfondo distance of 142km. They both have the same start and finish with a shortcut after 48km where the granfondo goes further north while the mediofondo turns right to head back to Lahti and the finish. Total elevation for the mediofondo is 960m and the granfondo 830m.

The Mediofondo is the qualifier distance for all men 60+ and all women 50+ while the Granfondo is the qualifier distance for all men 19-59 and all women 19-49.

Time Trial

The time trial on Friday is flat and fastrolling for a total distance of 32km and an elevation of 170m. The start and finish are located in Messilä in front of Café Laaso, 10km north west of the city center of Lahti. The first 10km of the route is used in both directions to then make a 10km loop at the far west side of the course before coming back to the finish over the same road.

The time trial is build for strong riders and real time trial specialists and only has some minor elevation.
