The organizers of the Tour de Bintan, the Indonesian UCI Gran Fondo qualifier have moved their event to the neighbouring island of Batam where the new Tour de Batam event will take place on 22-24 September as qualifier event for the 2024 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships.
The concept is the same as the Tour de Bintan, with a time trial on Friday, a Granfondo qualifier on Saturday and a non-qualifying event on Sunday. All three events will also count for a general classification over the three days.
The 15km time trial on Friday is an out-and-back loop starting from Palm Spring Beach where the headquarters of the event are located. It’s a mainly flat race with some minor elevation.
On Saturday, the 149km granfondo uses the start location of the time trial with a loop to the southernmost point on the island to return back on the same road for a finish on Baremang Bridge which is already crossed after 37km in the race.
Women do the same course but return earlier towards the finish for a distance of 129km. The race is quite hilly without having long or steep climbs.
Batam Island is only 30 minutes away by ferry from Singapore.
