Granfondo Gassin Golfe de Saint-Tropez provides stunning qualifying event in iconic cycling location

After a two year break, the Granfondo Gassin Golfe de Saint-Tropez returned to the UCI Gran Fondo World series on 8 April, proving a successful event held in an iconic part of the south of France.

The route of the course took riders through the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, with the 163.5km course departing from the French Riviera city of Saint-Tropez and heading inland to the Var region, before riding back towards the coast to finish in the town of Gassin – offering iconic views of the Mediterranean.

Organisers promised the event as an ideal way to kickstart the summer cycling season, and with sunny weather, the sound of crickets along the roadside and the smell of lavender in the air, the day did not disappoint.

First for the men was Tommaso Elettrico, leading his age group 19-34, in second place was Michiel Minnaert, also second in his age group 19-34, and in third was Cedrick Dubois, leading his age group 40-44.

For the women, Marie Dessart finished in first and in her age group 35-39, taking second was Marion Bessone leading in her age group of 19-34, and third Sylvie Riedle, also leading her age group 45-49.

In total, 729 riders completed the Granfondo course, while two other courses – a Mediofondo of 113.7km and a Rando of 62km – were offered for riders during this beautiful event.
