International podiums at the 43rd Maraton Franja

One of the oldest Granfondos in Europe and host of the 2014 UCI Gran Fondo World Championships had another great event this weekend with more than 5000 riders at the start of one of the disciplines.

In the 21.2km time trial on Friday which is back on the program for the first time since covid, Martin Geretschnig (AUT) impressed with a 25m22 second win, 10 seconds ahead of multiple world champion Igor Kopse (SLO) with Robert Kaluze (POL) in third at 1m05. The average speed of the winner was 50,15 km/h.

In the female time trial, Katharina Machner (AUT) won in a time of 30m02 in an average speed of 42.36 km/h, beating Monika Kosutova (SVK) by just over one minute with Annalisa Mondi (ITA) completing the podium at 1m45.

Federico Pozzetto (ITA) was the fastest of 4 at the end of the granfondo on Sunday, beating three Slovenians with Matic Groselj in second, Miran Kovacic and third and Tomotej Bavec in fourth. A bigger group sprinted for 5th place at 2 minutes.

Marusa Klemenc (SLO) was the fastest female of the day in the granfondo. Her nearest opponents Marine Lenehan (IRL) and Majda Horvat (AUT) were at respectively 44 seconds and 1m22.
