International peloton in the Tre Valli Varesine Granfondo

The fourth edition of the Tre Valli Varesine Granfondo this weekend was again a great success with a very international peloton with riders of 32 different countries at the start and splendid weather conditions.

The time trial on Saturday on the World Championships course was won by French 2018 World Champion Fabien Secondo in a time of 28:46 and an average speed of 45.88km/h. Swiss Emanuel Muller finished in second at 9 seconds while Italian Diego Venturi completed the podium. Jutta Stienen from Switzerland scored the fastest female time in 32:50 and an average speed of 40.20 km/h, 31 seconds ahead of F60-64 World Champion Jeannie Longo while Kerstin Brachtendorf finished third.

In the 130km Granfondo distance Federico Pozzetto finally outsprinted 10 of his opponents in the M19-34 age group who was the fastest start wave of the day. His compatriot Davide Busuito got in second while Roberto Cesaro sprinted to third spot.

While the male race was mainly an Italian festival with 9 of the top 10 riders from the home country, the female granfondo gave a much more international result with 5 different nationalities in the top 10. Fastest female was Swedish Eva Lindskog (F45-49) before Polish Alina Mylka (F35-39) and German Kerstin Brachtendorf (F45-49).

The 103km mediofondo which counted as qualifier distance for all men over 60 and women over 50 had Fabio Motalli as overall winner while Leonardo Stagnoli was the fastest male over 60 and Michela Giuseppina Bergozza finished as first female in the age groups over 50.
