Essential Costa Rica CRC 506 Gran Fondo Coast to Coast moves to 9-10 November

The new qualifier event in Costa Rica that was scheduled for the last weekend of September will have to move their event to a later date as heavy rainfall has caused landslides and severe damage to the roads and part of the course has been destroyed in recent weeks.

It will take time to restore these roads so the organizers are forced to postpone their event to 9-10 November 2019.

The event schedule will remain the same with a first qualifying stage starting in Limon at the Caribbean coast going towards the capital city of San José on Saturday over 122km and a second (non-qualifying) 114km stage starting from San José towards Puntarenas at the Pacific Coast on Sunday.

The event will put focus on climate change organizing the first Carbon-neutral Gran Fondo in the world with mainly electric cars serving the event while the few conventional cars in the event will be compensated by planting trees. The government is delivering these electric cars for the organizers.

The organizers also give the option to riders to pay their registration fee in parts to give everybody the chance to experience how it’s like to be a real professional cyclist for one day.

Costa Rica is famous for its wildlife and nature and is the most popular holiday destination in Latin America so lots of riders might combine the event with their family holiday.
