The new Malaysian UCI Gran Fondo event in Pekan this weekend is a great success as 803 riders from 18 different countries have signed up for the event.
The race takes place in the heart of Pahang’s Royal Town of Pekan on the eastern side of Malaysia and has a 162.7km granfondo course, serving as qualifier distance for all younger categories while the men over 60 and women over 50 make a shortcut to finish after 93.5km.
The full course follows both sides of the flat borders of the Pahang river during the first 40km and the last 68km and makes a short loop in the backcountry where riders experience some small climbs but with a total elevation of 1072m and a highest peak of only 84m above sea level, the course is flat and fast. The 93km mediofondo only follows the borders of the river and has 470m of elevation.
